#UCLfantasy Captain Marvel: matchday four

The usual candidates, and a couple of left-field choices, are in contention for the armband in the fourth round of games.

The next round of games are reverse fixtures of matchday three, so player performance last time out is a major factor when deciding who to select as your matchday four captain. Here are six candidates for the armband.

TUESDAY

Mohamed Salah (€11.0m) vs Crvena zvezda (A)

Given his exploits last season, it's fair to say that Salah didn't quite burst out of the blocks in the same manner in the early part of this campaign. However, with two goals against Crvena zvezda on matchday three on top of recent strikes in the Premier League, the Egyptian looks back to his best and simply has to be considered for the captaincy as Liverpool seek to maintain control of Group C.

Lionel Messi (€11.5m) vs Internazionale (A)

The unexpected news that Messi has made an early return to training has thrust the Argentinian back into the reckoning for the Fantasy armband. Despite missing out on matchday three, the Barcelona captain is still joint top of the UEFA Champions League goalscoring charts after hitting the net five times across matchdays one and two. If he recovers in time to face Inter, then he will be a prime candidate.

Dries Mertens (€10.0m) vs Paris (H)

Napoli's Mertens is currently enjoying a hot streak of form having netted in his last five games for club and country, including a hat-trick against Empoli on Saturday, so as far as differential captains go on Tuesday, the Belgian forward is right up there. Mertens was on the scoresheet in the 2-2 draw in Paris and, given Napoli's unbeaten record at home this season, he is a tempting skipper choice.

WEDNESDAY

Edin Džeko (€10.0m) vs CSKA Moskva (A)

Džeko didn't disappoint after we tipped him in our captains article ahead of matchday three, scoring twice and providing an assist as Roma ran out 3-0 winners against CSKA Moskva. Facing the same opponents in Russia is likely to be a sterner test, but when you consider the fact that no other player has scored more Fantasy points than Džeko this season (28), he becomes a difficult man to ignore.

Cristiano Ronaldo (€12.0m) vs Manchester United (H)

Anyone else with a cumulative total of zero Fantasy points this year would not get a look in here, but Ronaldo is no ordinary player. The Portuguese star finally looks to be hitting his stride at his new club – with five goals in his last four appearances in all competitions – and will be hungry to make amends on matchday four after failing to net against his former club last time out.

Robert Lewandowski (€11.0m) vs AEK (H)

Tied at the top of Group E with Ajax, Bayern – who defeated AEK 2-0 on matchday three – will be determined to register a second successive victory against the Greek side on Wednesday. Lewandowski, who has scored in two of his side's three UEFA Champions League fixtures this season, is a man you'll want in your Fantasy team.
