Valencia v Young Boys facts

Valencia need the fillip of a first Group H win as they welcome a Young Boys side who claimed their first ever UEFA Champions League point and goal in the reverse fixture on matchday three.

• Guillaume Hoarau's 55th-minute penalty cancelled out Michy Batshuayi's opener after 26 minutes at the Stade de Suisse, getting Young Boys on the board in the competition – although both sides are still lagging in the race to reach the last 16.

• While Young Boys have that solitary point, Valencia have picked up only two from their first three fixtures and trail second-placed Manchester United by two points, with Juventus out in front in the section having won all three games.

• Beaten 2-0 at home by ten-man Juventus in their opening fixture, Valencia responded by holding out for a goalless draw at Manchester United in their second match.

• The United draw ended Los Blanquinegros' four-game losing streak in the UEFA Champions League, although they have still lost five of their last ten matches in the competition proper. Batshuayi's strike at Young Boys ended Valencia's run of five games without a goal.

• Having kicked off their first ever group campaign with a 3-0 loss at home to Manchester United, the Berne club went down by the same scoreline at Juventus in their first away game.

• Young Boys were Swiss champions in 2017/18 – their 12th league title, but a first since 1986.

• Gerardo Seoane's side overcame Croatia's Dinamo Zagreb to reach the group stage for the first time, following a 1-1 home draw with a 2-1 away success. Young Boys' five previous UEFA Champions League campaigns all ended in qualifying, including in 2017/18 when they beat Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round but lost to CSKA Moskva in the play-offs.

• The Berne side have won only two of their last 13 European games (D5 L6), beating Skënderbeu 2-1 on matchday six of last season's UEFA Europa League in addition to the win in Zagreb. The fixture with the Albanian club was Young Boys' last European engagement of 2017/18, as they finished third in their section.

• The victory at Dinamo is Young Boys' sole away success in 15 European matches (D4 L10).

• The Swiss club have lost on two of their three trips to Spain, although they did win the other, 1-0 at Athletic Club in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. Home and away, their record against Spanish clubs is W3 D1 L3.

• Valencia have won just twice in all competitions this season (D10 L3) and had drawn five in a row before the 2-1 Copa del Rey success at third division Ebro on 30 October.

• The Spanish side were, however, unbeaten in nine matches since the matchday one defeat at home to Juventus (W2 D7) before going down 1-0 at home to Girona on Saturday.

• Hoarau has scored six goals in his last six appearances, including the opener at Grasshoppers on Saturday.
