Porto v Lokomotiv Moskva facts

Porto took the outright leadership of Group D with a solid win at Lokomotiv Moskva on matchday three and will be looking to strengthen their grip on the section when the Russian side visit Portugal for the reverse fixture.

• After Manuel Fernandes had had an early penalty saved by Porto's Iker Casillas, goals from Moussa Marega (26pen) and Héctor Herrera (35) put the visitors in control in Moscow on 24 October and, though Anton Miranchuk halved Lokomotiv's deficit before half-time, a Jesús Corona goal two minutes into the second half secured the points for the visitors. It was Lokomotiv's joint heaviest home defeat in the UEFA Champions League.

• The Portuguese side now have seven points in the section, two more than Schalke and three ahead of Galatasaray. Loko are fourth having lost all three games and will be unable to finish in the top two if either they lose and there is a winner in the Galatasaray-Schalke game, or if they draw and Schalke win.

• Porto edged to a 1-0 win at home against Galatasaray on matchday two having been held 1-1 at Schalke in their opening fixture.

• Lokomotiv went down 3-0 at Galatasaray in their first fixture before a late 1-0 home loss to Schalke. 

• Loko have lost their last five European matches – having won the previous four. The current run equals the worst losing sequence in Lokomotiv's European history, matching their five successive losses in 2003.

• Russian champions last season for the first time since 2004, Lokomotiv are in the group stage for the fourth time, having not featured since 2003/04 – their third successive appearance – when they reached the round of 16.

• The Moscow club have qualified from their group on their last two appearances.

• In 2017/18, Lokomotiv began in the UEFA Europa League group stage, beating Nice in the round of 32 before suffering an 8-1 aggregate loss against eventual champions Atlético Madrid in the last 16.

• The 3-0 first-leg loss at Atlético was Lokomotiv's only away defeat in Europe last season (W2 D2). Despite that defeat, and the matchday one reverse at Galatasaray, they have lost only three of their last 11 European away matches (W4 D4).

• Lokomotiv picked up only two points from their first three Premier League matches – the worst start to a campaign by the defending champions in Russian league history.
