Lionel Messi has signed a new contract tying him to Barcelona until the end of 2020/21, with a buyout clause worth €700m.

The 30-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire next year, has won the UEFA Champions League four times along with eight Spanish Liga titles with the club he joined at the age of 13.
Messi's tally of 523 goals for Barcelona is more than double the next most prolific striker, César. He is third on the club's list of all-time appearances with 602 but the new contract means Xavi Hernández's high of 767 could be in his sights.
