As the capital rivals prepare for another UEFA Champions League meeting, UEFA.com assesses their star strikers' derby credentials.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Madrid
Following his first-leg hat-trick, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 21 goals in 28 games against Atlético – in the league, Spanish Cup, UEFA Champions League and Spanish Super Cup – including three trebles (his previous two coming in a 4-1 away win in April 2012, and a 3-0 success last year). In addition, he was sent off once – in a 2-1 extra-time Copa del Rey final defeat in 2013.
That works out at about 0.75 goals a game – slightly higher than his UEFA Champions League average of just over 0.73 strikes per match (106 goals in 145 games).

He has played 2,499 minutes against Atlético, thus averaging a goal every 119 minutes or so.
Atlético can arguably do a couple of things to help prevent Ronaldo from hurting them again:
1) Do not concede a penalty; eight of Ronaldo's 21 strikes against Atleti have come from the spot.
2) Pay special attention to him in the first 25 minutes of the game; of those 21 goals, ten were scored in the opening 25 minutes – and five of them between the start of minute 22 and the end of minute 25.
3) Don't assume that he doesn't like playing at the Calderón; his first two derby hat-tricks were scored at Atlético's home stadium.

Antoine Griezmann, Atlético
The Frenchman has played 22 times against Real Madrid, registering five goals (though eight of those games and two of those goals came during his time with Real Sociedad). His derby scoring rate is three in 14 matches – an average of around 0.21 goals a game (his UEFA competition scoring rate is just under 0.37 per match – 15 goals in 41 fixtures).
However, if those figures are not earth-shattering, it is worth noting that he only finished on the losing side in three of those matches (barring shoot-outs).
Madrid have done a reasonable job of keeping him off the score sheet overall, but there are a couple of things they might like to bear in mind:
1) Pay close attention to him after half-time; all five of his goals against Madrid have come after the interval.
2) Stop him at all costs; Griezmann has never scored in a derby defeat for Atlético (W2 D1).
3) He can only do so much damage; Griezmann has yet to score more than once in a single game against Madrid.
