Article body
GK: Jan Oblak (Atlético Madrid)
The Slovenia goalkeeper was an assured last line of defence and produced a string of fine stops, none more important than that from Thomas Müller's second-half penalty.
DF: Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid)
Positional sense in both defence and attack was exemplary and frequently caught City out with his runs forward, while denying them any joy down their own left wing.
DF: Juanfran (Atlético Madrid)
The task of blocking the threat from Bayern's left flank was not an easy one, but the Spaniard rarely let Franck Ribéry or David Alaba get the better of him and blocked plenty of crosses.
DF: Diego Godín (Atlético Madrid)
So often the Uruguayan was in the right place at the right time to head away, but his interceptions on the ground were a crucial factor in Atlético progress to a second final in four years.
DF: David Alaba (Bayern München)
Helped set up Bayern's second goal with a brilliant cross from the left and was a general danger to the visitors with his pace, long-range shooting and forays infield.
MF: Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
The German international seems to top his side's passing statistics every match and this week was no different, 77 of them helping Madrid dictate play and keep the ball from City.
MF: Xabi Alonso (Bayern München)
Opened the scoring with a free-kick and the 34-year-old ran further (12.08km) than any other player on the pitch, while he was also unerring with his trademark passing ability.
MF: Luka Modrić (Real Madrid)
The Croatian was excellent, triggering a number of attacks courtesy of his brilliant first touch and intelligent passing; he received a standing ovation when substituted just before the end.
MF: Arturo Vidal (Bayern München)
Typical all-action display from the Chilean international as he showcased some delicate touches to initiate attacks and came up with a superb headed assist for Robert Lewandowski's goal.
FW: Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid)
His side had not created a chance of note before he raced clear of the Bayern defence and kept his head to produce a fine finish that resulted in the crucial away goal which, ultimately, sent Atlético through.
FW: Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)
Was a danger to Manchester City's defence all night with his jinking runs and menacing crosses, one of which deflected in off Fernando to send his team into the final.
