Bayern's 23-year-old left-back David Alaba has been named Player of the Year in his native Austria for the fifth time in succession, but is he worthy of a place in your UEFA.com Team of the Year?
The Player of the Year poll, conducted among the coaches of the ten Austrian Bundesliga clubs, reiterated the huge regard in which Alaba is held in his home country. "He is the best Austrian footballer since Herbert Prohaska," said Austria Wien's coach Thorsten Fink, while Salzburg boss Thomas Letsch called Alaba: "One of the most complete players of the highest international level".
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was delighted for Alaba, who helped his club to win a league title in 2015, while steering Austria toward UEFA EURO 2016. "David deserves this award," he said. "He's got everything a world-class footballer needs: huge talent, passion and determination to improve. At his age, he also has an unbelievable amount of experience."
Patrick Kluivert, Gianluca Pagliuca, Nené, David Trezeguet, Robert Pirès and Anatoliy Tymoschuk all chose Alaba in their star selections; is he your choice too?
