Player: Felipe Pardo (Olympiacos)
"I admit that this morning I wasn't expecting something like this to happen," winger Felipe Pardo told UEFA.com after Olympiacos's 2-1 Group F win against Dinamo Zagreb in Piraeus. The Greek champions were 1-0 down when the Colombian came on after 64 minutes; the former Braga man then struck in the 65th and 90th minutes to put his side within a point of the round of 16. "Viva Colombiano," wrote Greek daily LiveSport the following morning.

Team: Zenit
The only team with maximum points after four games, André Villas-Boas's Zenit made it to the round of 16 with a 2-0 Group H victory at Lyon. "Everyone's cheering and dancing now in the dressing room," said forward Artem Dzyuba, whose two goals – both set up by Hulk – secured the points at the Stade de Gerland. "Four wins, wow! I wouldn't have believed it if you'd predicted that. We were organised and had Hulk. He's just brilliant."

Result: Bayern 5-1 Arsenal
Josep Guardiola said "this is the best Bayern squad since I've been here" – and UK newspaper the Telegraph said the German champions were "among the best club sides in history" after they atoned for a 2-0 Group F loss at Arsenal and their first dropped Bundesliga points of the season. Arsenal had never previously conceded five in the UEFA Champions League. "This game will not remain in my memory as nothing positive happened at all," Arsène Wenger noted.

Comeback: Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus)
That right-back Lichsteiner registered his first UEFA Champions League goal in Juventus's 1-1 Group D draw with Mönchengladbach – on his 53rd appearance in the competition – was noteworthy enough. That the Swiss international did so just a month after undergoing surgery to correct a benign cardiac arrhythmia was quite remarkable. "I'm feeling really good after the operation and thrilled that everything went so well today," he said.

Number: 1
Maccabi Tel-Aviv did not have much reason to celebrate their first goal in Group G since it came in a 3-1 home loss to Porto, so instead credit due to Gent who earned their first ever UEFA Champions League group stage victory at the fourth attempt. Sven Kums's second-half penalty sufficed for a 1-0 home success against Valencia in Group H.

"Am I a wizard like Harry Potter? There is no big scar on my forehead. We have no magic wand and no magic spells. We work hard every day and luckily I have some magicians on the pitch."
