Locadia compliments De Jong on PSV success

It was a night of contrasts for Dutch forwards in Eindhoven, as PSV won 2-0 against Wolfsburg. While Luuk de Jong created a goal for Jürgen Locadia before grabbing one himself, Bas Dost, who spearheaded the visitors' attack, received little service and did not seriously threaten the home defence.

The 21-year-old Locadia, deputising for Maxime Lestienne on the left wing, had a fine game. He came closest to scoring before the break and finished with considerable composure in the second half to set his side on their way to a crucial Group B victory. "It was an amazing feeling to score here in Eindhoven, so it was a special night," he told UEFA.com. "The match was difficult, but we played good football – both in the first and second half."

Locadia, whose preference is to operate through the middle, seems to be adapting to life on the wing. "In the beginning it was difficult to play on the left side, but today things worked out fine," he said. He was also quick to highlight the role of De Jong. "He was strong and gave a great assist for my goal as well as scoring a good one himself."

This praise was reciprocated by De Jong, who has flourished since joining the Dutch champions from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2014. "Our partnership is developing really well," he said. "We are both strikers, so we understand each other – we search each other out. For the first goal, I took a touch and already saw that Jürgen was making a run, so I just gave the ball through."

PSV's top scorer, De Jong acknowledged the significance of his own strike – a measured lob over Diego Benaglio in the dying minutes. "It was especially important to score the second because we missed a penalty in Wolfsburg two weeks ago," the 25-year-old said. "Now we have the same result against each other, which increases our chances of going through."

Dost was isolated for most of the game and had few opportunities to upstage fellow Dutch international De Jong. "We didn't create very many chances," he said. "Normally that's our strength. Today, it wasn't like that, and then you always have the possibility that the opponents will score. It's a pity, because before their first goal we didn't have too many problems. It's clear what we have to do now, win at home [against Manchester United] and try to take a point in Moscow, but I realise this will be very difficult."
