Blanc 'not satisfied' after Paris draw with Madrid

Laurent Blanc said it was too much to expect Paris Saint-Germain to "send a message to all of Europe" by overpowering Real Madrid, who felt their 0-0 draw was two points dropped.

Highlights: Paris 0-0 Real Madrid
  • Neither Paris nor Real Madrid able to find a breakthrough at the Parc des Princes
  • Laurent Blanc says Paris "project" to win UEFA Champions League is on track
  • Madrid coach Rafael Benítez thinks his team should have won

Laurent Blanc, Paris manager
I am not satisfied with our performance, simply because we didn't get the result we were aiming for. The first half was maybe more disappointing because we did well at building from the back but gave the ball away so many times in midfield. We lacked a bit of aggression and desire to take on opponents. We tried to fix all this in the second half, when I thought we did a better job.

The draw is deserved. We didn't dominate Madrid, but they didn't [dominate] either. I think we can say we competed with them. Maybe some people expected us to get a big win and send a message to all of Europe but that's awfully hard to do against such a team. We were expected to impress offensively, but I think it's our defence and goalkeeper that shone the most.

All your players need to be at the top of their game if you want to compete with one of Europe's finest teams. The aim for the club remains to win the Champions League, but you have to remember the project is only four years old.

Zlatan content with Paris point

Rafael Benítez, Real Madrid manager
I think we played very well and that we were better than them – we deserved to win. We did all we could to get that result, but only one detail was missing, the goal. Players of that quality [the injured Karim Benzema] are obviously difficult to replace, but I'm happy with the performance from those that were on the pitch, especially Jesé and Toni Kroos – they all played a part in this match.

I don't think the lack of efficiency from the Paris forwards was purely down to them. I believe the credit should go to our defenders more than anything.
