Chelsea FC came closest to victory in the 0-0 draw at the NSK Olimpiyskyi, hitting the woodwork through Eden Hazard and Willian, and will be looking to overtake FC Dynamo Kyiv in the Group G table when they return to home soil on matchday four.

• The Ukraine side, unbeaten in their three games this season, have five points and Chelsea four.

Match background

Chelsea
• The London club began their 14th group stage campaign with a 4-0 home win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC before going down 2-1 at FC Porto.

• Last year Chelsea drew 1-1 at home to FC Schalke 04 and then beat NK Maribor (6-0) and Sporting Clube de Portugal (3-1) at Stamford Bridge. That meant they won their group for the ninth time in their last 12 campaigns; they finished runners-up in two other years and were eliminated in the group stage only once, in 2012/13.

• In last season's round of 16, a 2-2 home draw against Paris Saint-Germain (agg: 3-3) meant they went out on away goals.

• Oscar scored in Chelsea's 3-2 win at home to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2012/13 group stage.

• He had also scored in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture, a loss that helped ensure they would become the first UEFA Champions League holders to fail to get through the group stage.

• José Mourinho lifted the UEFA Champions League with Porto (2004) and FC Internazionale Milano (2010) and is bidding to become the first head coach to win the European Cup with three different teams.

Dynamo
• They rescued a point on matchday one when substitute Vitaliy Buyalskiy's late goal earned a 2-2 draw against Porto and then won 2-0 away to Maccabi.

• That was their first win in eight away games in the competition proper; home and away it was only their fifth victory in 33 group stage encounters.

• The Kyiv club beat Everton FC 5-2 at home in last season's UEFA Europa League round of 16 (aggregate 6-4). Andriy Yarmolenko, Antunes, Oleh Gusev, Danilo Silva and Łukasz Teodorczyk were all on the scoresheet, with Gusev also scoring in the away leg.

• That victory was only Dynamo's fifth in 25 encounters with English sides and they have yet to win in England (D2 L10).

Coach and player links
• Willian spent six years at Shakhtar Donetsk and was named the Ukraine Premier League's player of the year in 2011. He won the league four times with them and the Ukraine Cup on three occasions, beating Dynamo in the final in all three. His overall record against Dynamo was W13 D2 L5.

• On 16 November 2008 Willian scored Shakhtar's only goal in a 1-0 home league win over Dynamo.

• Yarmolenko scored the second goal in Ukraine's 2-0 defeat of Loïc Rémy's France in the 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off first leg in Kyiv on 15 November 2013. Khacheridi and Gusev also played for the home side.

• John Terry scored the winner in England's 2-1 victory over Ukraine in a 2010 World Cup qualifier at Wembley on 1 April 2009. Khacheridi, Gusev and Yarmolenko helped Ukraine gain revenge in a 1-0 win in the Dnipropetrovsk return that October.
