• Russian champions Zenit are the only team this season to have won all of their opening three matches. It is the first time the club have achieved that feat in six UEFA Champions League campaigns. Indeed, they had never previously won their first two matches.
• Hulk's goal for Zenit in their 3-1 win at home to Lyon was the 6,900th scored in the UEFA Champions League. It was the Brazilian's 16th goal in the competition and his third this season.
• Mircea Lucescu took charge of his 100th UEFA Champions League match, group stage to final, as Shakhtar Donetsk fell to a 1-0 defeat at Malmö. The Romanian is only the fifth coach to reach the century after Sir Alex Ferguson (190 matches), Arsène Wenger (165), Carlo Ancelotti (142) and José Mourinho (124).
• Shakhtar's defeat in Sweden means the Ukrainian club have lost all of their opening three matches. The only time that has happened in ten previous UEFA Champions League group campaigns was on their debut in 2000/01, when they went down to Lazio, Arsenal and Sparta Praha.
• Real Madrid's goalless draw away to Paris Saint-Germain was their first in 47 group stage matches – since a stalemate at Olympiacos on matchday four of the 2007/08 campaign.
• Bayern München's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal was their 48th in the competition – the same number as their victorious opponents. Porto have lost the most UEFA Champions League matches – 51.
• Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and Per Mertesacker both reached 50 UEFA Champions League appearances in the victory against Bayern.
• The 4-4 scoreline between Bayer Leverkusen and Roma equalled the highest-scoring draw in the competition. Hamburg were held 4-4 at home by Juventus in September 2000, and it was 4-4 again in the second leg of the 2008/09 quarter-final between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
• Galatasaray's 2-1 home victory over Benfica ended the Turkish club's ten-match run without a win in the competition. Their previous victory was on matchday six in 2013/14, when they defeated Juventus 1-0 in Istanbul – in a fixture delayed by snow – to proceed to the round of 16 at their opponents' expense.
• At the age of 18 years and 221 days, Porto's Rúben Neves became the UEFA Champions League's youngest captain when he led his team out in their 2-0 home win against Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The previous record-holder was Rafael van der Vaart, who skippered Ajax at AC Milan on 16 September 2003, aged 20 years 217 days. Igor Akinfeev was only ten days older when he donned the armband for CSKA Moskva at home to Porto on 21 November 2006.
• Iker Casillas, who has played more UEFA Champions League games than anyone else, moved one ahead of Edwin van der Sar in the clean sheets reckoning with his 51st shut-out as Porto beat Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-0.
