Porto fired up to end Chelsea's winning run

Chelsea have won their last eight encounters with Portuguese sides and on his return to Porto on matchday two, José Mourinho would dearly love to extend that to nine.

José Mourinho returns to FC Porto, with whom he first won the UEFA Champions League, in charge of a Chelsea FC side looking to take maximum points from their opening two games.

Previous meetings
• Chelsea have had the upper hand with four victories in the previous six encounters, Porto winning only one. The Londoners have won each of the last three – all by a single goal.

• They last faced each other in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League group stage when Chelsea came out on top 1-0 through Nicolas Anelka's second-half goal.

• The lineups at Estádio do Dragão on 25 November 2009 were:
Porto: Beto, Săpunaru (Farías 79), Rolando, Bruno Alves, Álvaro Pereira, Fernando, Varela (Hulk 60), Belluschi (Guarín 71), Raul Meireles, Rodríguez , Falcao.
Chelsea: Čech, Ivanović, Carvalho, Terry, Zhirkov, Ballack (Essien 68), Mikel Obi, Deco (J. Cole 76), Malouda, Anelka, Drogba.

• Anelka was also on target with the only goal in the Stamford Bridge fixture that season. Two years before, in the first knockout round, Chelsea held on for a 1-1 draw in Portugal before winning 2-1 at home

• In the 2004/05 group stage, Mourinho's first season with Chelsea having left Porto after guiding them to their 2004 UEFA Champions League triumph, Chelsea won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Damien Duff was on the scoresheet as Porto prevailed 2-1 at home.

Match background

Porto
• The 2003/04 and 1986/87 European Cup winners, who are in their 20th group stage campaign, were denied a winning start on matchday one when substitute Vitaliy Buyalskiy scored a last-minute equaliser for FC Dynamo Kyiv in a 2-2 draw.

• They hope to improve on last season's run to the quarter-finals, where they lost to FC Bayern München (winning 3-1 at home, losing 6-1 away).

• Julen Lopetegui's men won five and drew one of their six home games (including play-offs) in last season's competition, which featured a 6-0 thumping of FC BATE Borisov. They are unbeaten in their last 10 European home matches (W7 D3).

• Porto last faced English opponents in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League round of 32, losing 2-1 at home to Manchester City FC and 4-0 away. They have played 30 games against English clubs in Europe with the record W6 D8 L16 (W6 D6 L3 at home).

Chelsea
• The Londoners, who are in their 14th group stage campaign, began with a 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC.

• Last year, when they won their group for the ninth time in their last 12 campaigns, the Blues triumphed 1-0 at Sporting Clube de Portugal through Nemanja Matić's header.

• Chelsea also won the reverse fixture to extend their domination over Portuguese sides to eight successive wins.

• They remained unbeaten – also winning 5-0 at FC Schalke 04 – but went out on away goals in the round of 16 with a 2-2 home draw against Paris Saint-Germain after the first leg ended 1-1 in France.

• Chelsea's record against Portuguese clubs is W9 D1 L1. They beat Benfica in the 2013 UEFA Europa League final when Branislav Ivanović's header in the last minute of added time earned a 2-1 win at the Amsterdam ArenA.
