Mönchengladbach and City out to make amends

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and Manchester City FC will try again for their first points in Group D when they meet at Borussia-Park on matchday two.

• Both clubs suffered disappointment on the opening night with Mönchengladbach beaten 3-0 at Sevilla FC while City succumbed 2-1 at home to Juventus.

• Gladbach coach Lucien Favre resigned on 20 September after four and a half years at the helm. His decision followed five straight defeats in the Bundesliga and that opening group-stage loss. André Schubert took caretaker charge.

• Mönchengladbach overcame Man. City 4-2 on aggregate en route to lifting the UEFA Cup in 1979.

• Mick Channon (26) and Ewald Lienen (66) traded goals at Maine Road before Mönchengladbach's 3-1 victory in the return leg. Christian Kulik (45), Hans-Günter Bruns (52) and Karl Del'Haye (71) all scored before Kazimierz Deyna (78) struck for City.

• Mönchengladbach ended a run of six consecutive Bundesliga defeats – a sequence including the final game of last term – by beating FC Augsburg 4-2 on 23 September in Schubert's first match in caretaker charge. The Foals scored all of their goals inside the opening 21 minutes.

• Mahmoud Dahoud, 19, registered his first Bundesliga goal versus Augsburg.

• Mönchengladbach won 3-1 at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes.

• Johnson (out since 16 August, calf), who scored the opener, and Patrick Herrmann (4 September, knee) returned against Augsburg. Álvaro Domínguez (back) made his first appearance of the season.

• This is the first time Mönchengladbach have started a Bundesliga campaign with five successive losses.

• De Bruyne was also on target at Tottenham Hotspur FC on Saturday, but City went on to lose 4-1 and have now lost three of their last four games in all competitions.

• A late substitute, George Evans made his senior debut for the club as Manuel Pellegrini's side eased to a 4-1 win at Sunderland AFC in the League Cup third round on 22 September.

• Evans, 20, became the second City player, after Chris Chantler in 2010, to represent every academy age group, from the Under-8s right through to the first team.

• Kompany (calf) has not played since going off 15 minutes from time on matchday one; Zabaleta was ruled out for a month on 21 August after suffering a knee injury in training although he was an unused substitute at Tottenham.
