PSV Eindhoven will go in search of a second victory in Russia when they visit Group B rivals PFC CSKA Moskva on matchday two.

Previous meetings
• PSV beat CSKA home and away in the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2007/08.

• Jan Wouters' PSV triumphed 2-1 in Eindhoven – Danko Lazović and Kenneth Perez scoring before Vágner Love's late reply – and then prevailed 1-0 in Moscow through a Jefferson Farfán header. PSV ended in third place in the group with CSKA bottom.

• The lineups for that encounter in Moscow on 27 November 2007 were:
CSKA: Akinfeev, V Berezutski, Ignashevich, A Berezutski, Šemberas, Aldonin, Rahimić (Grigoriev 86), Zhirkov, Dudu (Odiah 73), Ramón (Erkin 61), Janczyk.
PSV: Gomes, Salcido, Marcellis, Alcides, Zonneveld, Méndez, Rajković, Bakkal (Culina 77), Afellay, Farfán (Koevermans 81), Lazović (Perez 84).

Match background

CSKA
• CSKA will be looking to bounce back after their opening 1-0 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg.

• This is their third home meeting with Dutch visitors. They lost the first two matches by the same 1-0 scoreline – against Feyenoord in the 1996/97 UEFA Cup first round and PSV in 2007.

• CSKA's only victory in six attempts against Eredivisie opposition was a 3-1 win at Feyenoord in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup group stage. They have five survivors of that fixture in their current squad: Igor Akinfeev, Sergei Ignashevich, Aleksei and Vasili Berezutski, and Alan Dzagoev.

PSV
• PSV have never won back-to-back games at the start of a UEFA Champions League group stage but will hope to buck that trend and build on their opening 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester United FC.

• PSV lost two of six away fixtures in the UEFA Europa League last season – both in Russia. They fell to a 1-0 defeat at FC Dinamo Moskva on matchday two of the group phase, then went down 3-0 at FC Zenit in the round of 32, confirming a 4-0 aggregate reverse.

• PSV also lost in Russia in a 2010/11 UEFA Europa League play-off against FC Sibir Novosibirsk, yet recovered to win the second leg 5-0.

Coach and player links
• As a player, PSV coach Phillip Cocu visited the Russian capital once in UEFA competition – for Barcelona's 3-1 victory at FC Lokomotiv Moskva in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League first group stage. He also figured in Barça's 1-0 home win against Lokomotiv.

• CSKA's Zoran Tošić faced PSV defender Simon Poulsen in Serbia's 2-0 reverse at Denmark in a UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier in June. Poulsen had been an unused substitute when Tošić scored in Serbia's earlier home loss (1-3) to the Danes in November 2014.

• Vasili Berezutski, Ignashevich and Dzagoev helped Russia beat Poulsen's Denmark 2-0 in a friendly match in February 2012.

• Akinfeev and Ignashevich played in Russia's 3-1 quarter-final win over the Netherlands at UEFA EURO 2008.

• Ahmed Musa featured 37 times and scored eight goals for VVV-Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie (2010–2012).

• Players who have played together:
Pontus Wernbloom & Héctor Moreno, Stijn Schaars, Poulsen (AZ Alkmaar's 2009 Dutch title-winning team)
