  • Dinamo Zagreb coach Zoran Mamić hails "miracle" win against Arsenal
  • Mamić claims to have been "secretly hopeful" Dinamo would triumph
  • Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger upbeat about chances of qualifying despite defeat

Zoran Mamić, Dinamo coach
Of course I am delighted – we have beaten Arsenal in our opening match. We have won a Champions league game for the first time in a long time. I was secretly hopeful we could perform a miracle as I knew how my boys had been working, living and concentrating on the task. I was not afraid it would be a catastrophe for us as I knew we would be physically up to their level.

This is a huge reason for us to celebrate. At half-time we agreed in the dressing room that we would not change our style of play despite being in front and having an extra man. The red card made the job easier for us, but Arsenal are a top-quality team and all their players can inflict damage.

Walcott: Sending off costly

Bayern [in our next game]? We will do everything we can to spring another surprise. Saying that, anything other than a defeat would be a surprise.

Arsène Wenger, Arsenal manager
It is disappointing – we had many chances that we didn't score from. It was difficult to play with a man less, as we did for about 50 minutes. We were not at our best tonight and especially should have reacted better when we conceded the second goal.

We can still qualify if we produce top performances in our next five matches. We always have the same problem at the start of competitions, but I am confident we can still do a good job.

These were exceptional circumstances tonight. We had one player less on the pitch, we had the possession but Dinamo played a good game. It is too early to make any predictions.
