Cocu points to PSV team ethic in United triumph

Phillip Cocu believed a "team effort" was responsible as PSV came from behind to beat Manchester United, who Louis van Gaal acknowledged had let victory slip away.

Highlights: PSV 2-1 Man. United

Phillip Cocu, PSV coach
I'm very proud of the team – we showed today that this was a team effort. We kept our heads up after going a goal down, stayed confident in the way we played and focused on the chances we had.

We did a fantastic job, especially down the wings. We worked very hard and stayed organised. United didn't create a lot and in the end we had some chances to finish it.

We had a great atmosphere in the stadium, the fans supported us really well. It's a great feeling with this result for the team. We played like real men, we worked hard for each other. We were sharp in switching from defence to attack. I had confidence in the team and the players showed that.

We are sad about the very bad injury to Luke Shaw. It is never the intention of PSV to injure an opposing player. It's very unfortunate.

Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager
We had to get a second goal to go 2-0 up because then the game is finished, but we didn't. That's what happened today and it shows that you never know. We can only blame ourselves I think; we had so many chances.

We could have scored many more. It is always like that. You have to be effective. PSV are very effective – they scored out of nothing. The first was a deflected goal and the other was after a misplaced pass. It is fantastic for PSV and the fans. But it was not necessary.
