Club Brugge visit Manchester United in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off on Tuesday, 37 years on from their most recent European Cup trip to England.
The date was 10 May 1978 and the venue was Wembley as Club Brugge, took on defending champions Liverpool in the final, two years on from the Reds beating the Belgian club 4-3 to win the UEFA Cup.With the likes of Georges Leekends and René Vandereycken in their team, Club Brugge had a fine squad marshalled by Ernst Happel, a 1970 European Cup winner as coach of Feyenoord and to be so again in 1983 with Hamburger SV.
There were 92,500 fans at the stadium, the third highest attendance for a European Cup final to that date and still in the top four. A Kenny Dalglish goal meant that the only Belgian appearance in the European Cup final to date ended in defeat.
Click on the video player above to watch highlights of that game as Club Brugge continue their bid to reach a third European final this season, knowing this time Liverpool will not be lying in wait.
