Following a successful partnership during UEFA EURO 2012, UEFA and Hublot today announced that the prestigious Swiss watchmaker will be the official licensed watch for the UEFA Champions League for the next three years. This collaboration with Europe's premium club competition represents a new departure in the company's strategy with regard to football.
Hublot is particularly proud today to unveil the new fourth official board for the UEFA Champions League for the 2015–18 period. The board is used by the fourth official to indicate additional time at the end of a match, as well as player substitutions. The new design is directly inspired by a Hublot watch and the UEFA Champions League 'Ultimate Stage' brand.
The optimised design integrates ergonomic handling and a weight that has been strictly limited at every stage of its technical development to avoid unnecessary excess efforts. A carefully designed appearance makes the board not only practical, but also attractive, with a styling that now blends the features of a watch and the UEFA Champions League brand. The official launch of the UEFA Champions League fourth official board will take place at the first legs of the competition's play-off matches on Tuesday.
Hublot also becomes the official UEFA Europa League watch partner, and a specific fourth official board is inspired by the new UEFA Europa League brand. This board will be used for all matches as of this season's group stage in the largest professional club football competition in the world.
Commenting on the agreement, Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events S.A., said: "We are delighted to welcome Hublot as the official licensed watch partner of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The brand fits perfectly with the prestigious and exciting nature of our top club competitions. We look forward to developing new bespoke timepieces together, as well as seeing the newly designed fourth official boards in action."
Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, said: "It is an immense honour and a privilege for Hublot to become a partner of the major club competitions organised by UEFA. The work we have already performed together is part of the long-term relationship that Hublot has built with UEFA. As partners, we have created an item with an innovative design that reflects the quality of both brands."
