How the play-off contenders got on

Ahead of this week's UEFA Champions League play-off first legs we look at the latest domestic results from the teams in action on Tuesday and Wednesday.

TUESDAY MATCHES
Astana v APOEL:

Aktobe 0-1 Astana
• Astana moved three points clear of Aktobe and two ahead of Kairat Almaty, who drew, with this vital Thursday win thanks to Roger Cañas's 81st-minute goal.
• The game began the ten-game championship round involving the regular season top six.

APOEL 0-0 AEL (AEL win 3-4 on pens): Cyprus Super Cup
• APOEL are yet to begin their league title defence but on Wednesday lost in the Cyprus Super Cup for the second straight year.

Manchester United v Club Brugge:

Aston Villa 0-1 Manchester United
• Louis van Gaal's side made it two Premier League wins from two with a second 1-0 win in a week on Friday.
• Adnan Januzaj's shot deflected onto the upright and into the net in the 29th minute.

Club Brugge 2-1 Kortrijk
• Also on Friday, added-time goals produced a dramatic finale but Brugge made it two home victories from two thanks to Tuur Dierckx's 92nd-minute winner.
• Sakis Papazoglou had equalised a minute earlier for the visitors after Ruud Vormer's opener.

Sporting CP v CSKA Moskva:

Tondela 1-2 Sporting CP
• Sporting opened the Portuguese Liga season on Friday with a win thanks to a 95th-minute penalty from Adrien Silva at promoted Tondela.
• Luís Alberto had equalised on 58 minutes, cancelling out João Mário's first-half effort.

Spartak Moskva 1-2 CSKA Moskva
• CSKA maintained their perfect start to the Premier-Liga season, making it five wins from five with a Friday derby victory at Spartak.
• Sergei Ignashevich and Ahmed Musa were on target for the Army Men, who conceded their first goal this term when Dmitri Kombarov pulled one back from the spot.

Lazio v Bayer Leverkusen:

Lazio: no game

Leverkusen 2-1 Hoffenheim
• Leverkusen opened their Bundesliga campaign with a win for the third consecutive year.
• Steven Zuber's fifth-minute goal was the first Leverkusen have conceded at home in ten matches but Stefan Kiessling and Julian Brandt turned Saturday's game.

BATE Borisov v Partizan:

Gomel 0-0 BATE
• Belarusian Premier League leaders BATE are two league matches without a win after Friday's stalemate at 12th-placed Gomel.

Vojvodina 3-2 Partizan
• Partizan have won all three of their home league games this season but have now been beaten in both away fixtures after Thursday's defeat.

• Abubakar Oumaru scored both Partizan goals.

WEDNESDAY MATCHES
Celtic v Malmö:

Celtic 4-2 Inverness
• Held 2-2 by Kilmarnock in midweek, Ronny Deila's Celtic side returned to winning ways despite being pegged back from four up.
• Celtic – who signed midfielder Scott Allan from Hibernian on Friday – are 14 unbeaten in all competitions, a run stretching back to mid-April.

Malmö 2-0 Gefle
• On Saturday, Malmö managed their third successive victory, all of them at home.
• Markus Rosenberg rounded off the scoring with his fifth goal in his last seven outings.

Valencia v Monaco:

Valencia: no game

Monaco 0-0 LOSC
• Monaco followed up their opening-day victory at Nice with a scoreless draw in their first home game of the campaign.

Skënderbeu v Dinamo Zagreb:

Skënderbeu 2-2 Laçi (Laçi win 8-7 on pens): Albanian Super Cup
• Early substitute Hamdi Sahili scored twice to pull Skënderbeu back from 2-0 down on Wednesday.

• However the champions fell on penalties in their bid to win a third straight Albanian Super Cup.

Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 RNK Split
• Dinamo prevailed in what was a repeat of last season's Croatian Cup final, which the Blues claimed on penalties. 
• The capital club have not lost since 27 November – a 1-0 reverse at Astra Giurgiu in the UEFA Europa League group stage.

Rapid Wien v Shakhtar Donetsk:

Sturm Graz 2-2 Rapid Wien
• Rapid, the only play-off contenders in action on Sunday, had their perfect Bundesliga start ended in game five but a late comeback gave the leaders a point.
• Two down at the break, Rapid had hope when substitute Robert Berić pulled one back with 20 minutes to go and with just two minutes remaining he turned in a Florian Kainz corner to equalise.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-2 Dnipro
• Shakhtar lost ground on Dynamo Kyiv at the top of the Ukrainian table as they conceded twice late on and saw Vyacheslav Shevchuk dismissed on a disappointing night in Odessa.
• An 84th-minute Matheus goal was added to by Yevhen Seleznyov as the Pitmen suffered their first league defeat of the season in their fifth outing, leaving them five points adrift of leaders Dynamo when the weekend ended.

Basel v Maccabi Tel-Aviv:

Meyrin 0-4 Basel
• Basel, Swiss Cup runners-up in May, eased into the second round of the competition on Saturday.
• Urs Fischer's men have won all eight of their competitive assignments since that 3-0 final defeat by Sion on 7 June.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-2 Hapoel Kiryat Shmona (Hapoel win 4-5 on pens): Israeli Super Cup
• In the first Israeli Super Cup for 26 years after the competiton's revival, 2014/15 double-winners Maccabi fell to last season's league runners-up on Saturday.
• Eran Zahavi gave Maccabi the lead both in normal and extra time against their ten-man opponents but missed in the shoot-out.
