It is not easy to do what we have done tonight. Basel had a great campaign, so this was never going to be easy. This group has a lot of ambition, they deserve this success, we are delighted. Danilo's situation was dramatic but he recovered consciousness on his way to hospital and appears to be OK. This victory is also for him. We worked to win tonight, attacked well, defended well against a very good team, so it's a day to be very proud of the boys.
We are not thinking about our next opponents. The team will keep going with the same ambition. The players train very hard, with a real desire for victory. The boys should be very happy to have come this far, but they keep believing, and step-by-step we are responding well in every competition. We reacted to the way they set up against us; at times we attacked down the wings, other times through the middle. With Danilo injured, we lost depth on the flanks but found a solution to cope with it.
Paulo Sousa, Basel coach
I am disappointed with the result but proud of our campaign in the Champions League. We were not at our best, they were better at both ends. I want to congratulate my colleague [Julen Lopetegui], his team and the club. Porto have a lot of quality. We could have scored a goal at the end of the first period, but we couldn't and they were better. Let's now end this season well so we can be here again next year.
We were unable to execute a short passing game due to their efficient pressing. I love football, I love my team to be intense. We couldn't be at our best in either match, we were not the same as in October, November and December – if we had been, this result would not have happened. The players are disappointed, no one likes to lose. We always work to win but they were better than us.
