Paris Saint-Germain had already qualified from the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League group stage when they visited FC Bayern München on 23 November 1994. As such, Weah, who had struck twice in Paris's three opening victories, was due to be rested and was told by coach Luis Fernández to "go shopping". He promptly obliged before being beckoned back to sit on the bench. As planned, with the game goalless, he came on midway through the second half; a stunning solo winner followed with ten minutes left.
"It was an exceptional piece of work," said Weah. "I can't comment on this goal because that's the journalists' job. [But] it was an exceptional personal performance, very, very exceptional. To shoot at goal and see the ball go in was a fabulous moment and everyone went crazy on the pitch, including me. I was very happy because I came into the game and scored such a goal. It was an exceptional story."
