Galatasaray AŞ have parted company with coach Cesare Prandelli in the wake of Wednesday's 2-0 defeat by RSC Anderlecht in the UEFA Champions League which confirmed their elimination from Europe this season.
Club vice-president Abdurrahim Albayrak announced that the board had decided to dismiss the 57-year-old Italian on Thursday evening. Prandelli replaced his compatriot Roberto Mancini in the summer having resigned as Italy coach following an early FIFA World Cup exit. However, he oversaw a return of just one point – from the matchday one home draw with Anderlecht – in UEFA Champions League Group D.
Wednesday's loss in Brussels, Galatasaray's fourth in succession in the competition, made sure that Prandelli's side would finish bottom of their section. Their performances in the Turkish Super League have generally been more palatable. The Istanbul team have collected 19 points from ten games and are one point behind both Beşiktaş JK and Fenerbahçe SK, despite Saturday's 3-0 home reverse to Trabzonspor AŞ.
