Mourinho, Hazard quietly content after Blues win

While José Mourinho hailed his side's balance and Eden Hazard whispered about it being "a good day", the NK Maribor camp were in no doubt: Chelsea FC can win this competition.

Today was good, it was a good game. We did very well offensively and didn't concede; it's a good day for Chelsea. It was very important to stay top of the group. Six games are over very quickly and if after three games you are top you can start looking to the future. We are in a good position and we want to stay in first position.

In the Champions League it is maybe the best [display] since I have been here, because we did fantastically offensively and we scored six great goals.

Agim Ibraimi , Maribor forward
We know how strong Chelsea are and we knew we had to play a collective game but it didn't work out. They showed individual skills and how brave they are and we didn't play so well. We have to keep our heads up and begin to think positively of the other games.

Chelsea are among the candidates to win the Champions League. They are dangerous and they don't concede many goals. We learned something today, how the Chelsea players play for their team, and hopefully we will be better for it in the next game.

We are happy to be taking part in this competition but teams like Chelsea and Schalke need only one chance to score a goal while in the Slovenian league teams need ten.

Hazard revels in Chelsea win

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
We played well, we are confident. We are solid and we have found a good balance. We now have the players adapted to the style that we were preparing last year but we couldn't manage to do it in the perfect way. Good results and performances bring confidence and that brings people to their best.

It was 3-0 at half-time and on many occasions you just stop. But we carried on and wanted to score more. I told the players before the game that the best way to treat opponents that do not have the same potential you have is to play to the maximum. They deserve our respect and because we respected them so much we had such a solid performance.

We are playing well and we are getting good results. [Didier] Drogba's last goal for Chelsea was the most important goal in the history of this club so I am very happy he scored again here at Stamford Bridge. For [debutant Dominic] Solanke it was the perfect situation – it was something he will never forget and for sure he is going to play many, many Champions League matches.

We are in the group phase. We have played three matches. To be in the final we have to play 12 games and there is a long way to go. I think it is premature to speak about that when we are not even through to the next phase. We must go step by step. First step is to qualify. Second step is to win the group. Then we go from there.

Ante Šimundža, Maribor coach
It's hard to know what to say. It's obvious this Chelsea side are serious contenders to win this year's Champions League. The quality of their play and their players was out of reach for us. It's very difficult for a team to come from the Slovenian league and play against an outfit from the Premier League. There is a big difference.

Before I came here I knew the home match [on matchday four] would be tough because Chelsea are a really good team – but maybe in the home game we will have a few more chances and start to believe. I know we can be better as a team, but it will be very tough.

Chelsea have great individual quality and maybe make you look a little bit lost on the pitch. We conceded three goals from counterattacks and in that respect we may have been a bit naive. But Chelsea had an exceptional day today.
