CSKA Moskva v Bayern background

PFC CSKA Mosvka and FC Bayern München met for the first time last season and now renew acquaintance in Moscow as the hosts look to bounce back from their opening 5-1 loss at AS Roma.

• CSKA were already eliminated when they hosted Bayern on 27 November last year and Bayern's 3-1 victory secured a record tenth successive victory in the UEFA Champions League. They had previously defeated CSKA 3-0 in Munich.

• CSKA won their two previous home meetings with German opposition, both in the UEFA Champions League – 1-0 v Hamburger SV (2006/07); 2-1 v VfL Wolfsburg (2009/10).

• Their away record against Russian sides is W4 D3 L1. Their only defeat was at FC Zenit (0-4) in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup semi-finals. Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribéry all played.

• Claudio Pizarro hit both Bayern goals in a 2-2 draw at FC Spartak Moskva in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League.

Coach and player links
• As FC Moskva coach, Leonid Slutski lost to Hertha BSC Berlin in the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup (0-0 a, 0-2 h).

• Guardiola was in the Barcelona team who, as holders, were eliminated from the 1992/93 UEFA Champions League in the second round by CSKA, (1-1 a, 2-3 h). The next season he featured in a 5-1 group stage victory at home against Spartak.

• Xabi Alonso got the better of CSKA in the 2011/12 group stage with Real Madrid CF (1-1 a, 4-1 h) and with Liverpool (3-1) in the 2005 UEFA Super Cup. Pepe Reina played in that latter match too.

• David Alaba hit Austria's goal in a 1-1 draw with substitute Pontus Wernbloom's Sweden in their opening qualifier for UEFA EURO 2016. Alaba also scored in a 2-1 home win over a Sweden including Rasmus Elm in 2014 World Cup qualifying.

• Elm scored Sweden's added-time equaliser past Neuer when they fought back from 4-0 down to draw in Berlin in October 2012. Also playing were Boateng, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Holger Badstuber, Thomas Müller and Mario Götze (Germany) and Pontus Wernbloom (Sweden).

• Alan Dzagoev struck Russia's goal in a 1-1 draw with Robert Lewandowski's Poland at UEFA EURO 2012. Ignashevich and Aleksei Berezutski also featured.

• Seydou Doumbia scored past Neuer for Ivory Coast in a 2-2 friendly draw against Germany in November 2009.

• Pontus Wernbloom and Alan Dzagoev will serve the second game of three-match bans in UEFA club competition. 

• Seydou Doumbia scored an 89th-minute winner – his second goal of the game – as CSKA edged a 4-3 victory at lowly FC Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast on Saturday.

• Roman Eremenko has scored in four of his last six outings for club and country.

• Wernbloom and Dzagoev scored second-half goals as CSKA came from behind to win 2-1 at second-tier FC Khimik Dzerzhinsk in the Russian Cup round of 32 on 24 September.

• Manuel Neuer kept a clean sheet on his 100th Bundesliga appearance for Bayern – a 4-0 home victory over a SC Paderborn side that began the day top of the table on 23 September.

• Franck Ribéry has only made one appearance this season, scoring a goal in the 2-0 home win against VfB Stuttgart on 13 September, because of knee problems.

• Javi Martínez (out since 13 August, knee) and Holger Badstuber (13 September, left thigh) are long-term absentees.
