Today marks the launch of the new 2014/15 edition of the prestigious, UEFA.com-backed European Football Yearbook.
The publication is in its 27th year and remains as indispensable as ever, telling the story of the past season of European football with reports, graphics, photographs and unrivalled statistical coverage. Containing 752 pages and in full colour throughout, the yearbook is not just an essential reference; it is appealing on the eye and a good read besides.
Real Madrid CF coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has written this year's foreword, is thrilled to see his team brandishing the UEFA Champions League trophy on the front cover, saying: "I shall treasure this edition of the European Football Yearbook, and I sincerely hope that many others will too. The yearbook, with its comprehensive coverage of [Madrid's] triumph, will help to ensure that this is prominently logged in the game's archives."
While giving pride of place to the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the book also covers every other UEFA competition, with youth football, the women's game and futsal all featuring. The 2014/15 edition also contains an in-depth account of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – a chapter that will certainly appeal to the publication's German readers – as well as the ever-popular top 100 players feature.
The core of the yearbook is the nation-by-nation section. This provides separate chapters on each of the 54 UEFA member associations, which, according to Ancelotti, "make for a unique and fascinating insight into the European season".
This year, for the first time, full domestic league player appearance records, results and top goalscorers lists are supplied for every country, including Andorra, San Marino and new member Gibraltar. Another welcome addition is the inclusion of logos and club colours for all top division and promoted clubs.
Mike Hammond, who has been the European Football Yearbook's general editor since the very first edition in 1988/89, is proud that the publication continues to go from strength to strength.
"Since UEFA.com added their support in 2007, the yearbook has evolved and improved year on year," he said. "I believe that this 2014/15 edition is the best we have produced, both in terms of content and design. Its substance is matched by its style, and there is something in it for everyone."
Published by Carlton, the 2014/15 European Football Yearbook will be available to buy in bookshops and online from September, and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
