After committing to Spanish champions Club Atlético de Madrid for the next two seasons, midfielder Tiago said he had made the "right choice" in staying with Diego Simeone's side.
The former Portuguese international – who has scored ten goals in 118 top-flight appearances for the Rojiblancos – explained that he was delighted to be remaining at the club. "I felt proud with what we achieved last season, but I thought that my cycle here had ended," the 33-year-old admitted.
"I had the opportunity to play in different leagues but after taking my time to mull over the different options during the summer, I knew that continuing with Atlético I couldn't go wrong," Tiago added. "El Cholo [Simeone] always left the door open to me here and I am happy as I know I have made the right choice to continue."
Originally a loan signing from Juventus, the former SC Braga, SL Benfica, Chelsea FC and Olympique Lyonnais midfielder sealed a permanent switch to Atlético in 2011. Having previously won top-flight honours in England and France, Tiago added a Liga crown last season at the club where he has also collected UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles.
