Manchester City FC may have to contend with the absence of Álvaro Negredo for the start of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign after the forward broke a metatarsal in his foot.
The fracture occurred during Friday night's friendly against Heart of Midlothian FC and may force the 28-year-old Spaniard to miss City's group stage opener, scheduled to take place on the 16/17 September. "I want to let you know that it's going to be hard for the next few months, I fractured my fifth metatarsal and will be out a few months," the striker said on Instagram. "I will be back stronger than ever."
The injury means the former Sevilla FC marksman misses the English champions' pre-season tour of the United States and will be absent for the start of the Premier League season, which begins for City with a game against Newcastle United FC on 17 August.
