Miroslav Radović's added-time goal for Legia Warszawa finally broke Saint Patrick's Athletic FC's resolve as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

The Serbian midfielder's 91st-minute goal cancelled out Christy Fagan's first-half strike for the Irish side. This still leaves plenty to be played for when the clubs meet in a week's time for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie.

The Irish title-holders, who are appearing in the competition for the first time since the 1999/2000 season, went into the break a goal to the good after an impressive first-half showing. Ian Bermingham's cut-back from the left found Fagan who tapped home to give St Patrick's the lead after 38 minutes.

Iñaki Astiz clared off the goal line from Fagan before Legia – coached by former Manchester United FC defender Henning Berg – were unlucky not to level the scoreline with Hélio Pinto hitting the bar on the stroke of half-time.

After sustained pressure from the home side in the second half they were not to be denied and eventually found the breakthrough deep into stoppage time when Ondrej Duda set up Radović.

Despite this St Patrick's will remain confident going into next week's game with an away goal to their name.
