FC Aktobe moved a step closer to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after claiming a narrow first-leg win against Georgian side FC Dinamo Tbilisi at the Boris Paichadze National Stadium.
Brazilian forward Danilo Neco headed home emphatically in the 51st minute to give the Kazakhstani team the all-important advantage going into next Wednesday's second qualifying round second leg, after meeting a cross from the left by Anderson Mineiro.
It was the hosts – led by former Czech Republic coach Michal Bílek – who had the momentum early on though as Ivory Coast forward Vuoho missed a good chance after just a minute. Vuoha went close again before the interval, with Aktobe goalkeeper Andrei Sidelnikov then called into action at various points during the second half to thwart Dinamo.
Despite sustained pressure and attempts on goal, Bílek's side were ultimately unable to get themselves back into the game. They will look to overcome the scoreline in a week's time in Kazakhstan.
