Paris Saint-Germain were left wondering what might have been after Chelsea FC's late winner denied the French title holders a first UEFA Champions League semi-final berth in 19 years. Maxwell and Alex agreed that Chelsea's first goal, from André Schürrle, was pivotal while Blaise Matuidi said they now must focus on the season's remaining objectives: Ligue 1 and the French League Cup.

Maxwell, Paris defender
We're really upset about the result and the way it came about. I knew it would be a difficult, intense game. Both teams gave their all and we let it slip at the end. We played well in the first half, defending well and counterattacking. Unfortunately we conceded a goal from a set piece, which is one of their strengths.

In the second half, they played more balls in the air and put pressure on us, but the goal was a strange one: the ball ricocheted round and ended up going in.

We produced some good performances during the competition. We leave disappointed, but conscious that we'll learn from the experience.

Blaise Matuidi, Paris midfielder
We can be proud of what we have achieved. We will learn from this match as we move forward. It was not going to be easy against a big team who have more experience than us. We had a chance to score, but the game swung in their favour. We were missing our top scorer [the injured Zlatan Ibrahimović], which was a big loss. We're very disappointed. Now we must focus on other objectives for the rest of the season.

Alex, Paris defender
We conceded the first goal too easily and in the second half they started to put pressure on us. I know how difficult it is for opponents to play here [having spent five years at Stamford Bridge]. We didn't start with enough aggression like we played at home. Scoring the first goal near the end of the first half was very important for them.

It was very difficult for us and all the players are sad. We were confident of getting a good result but we did not play like we can and we paid for it.
