Real Madrid CF defender Marcelo is unlikely to appear in his team's UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Borussia Dortmund after suffering a hamstring tear.
According to the Spanish club, the 25-year-old Brazil left-back – who has scored once in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Merengues this season – suffered a "first-degree tear in his left hamstring". Although no recovery time was specified by Madrid, such injuries commonly take up to two weeks to heal. The news will come as a blow to coach Carlo Ancelotti who already has versatile full-back Álvaro Arbeloa sidelined with a knee problem.
The nine-time European champions host Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, with the quarter-final return leg in Germany next Tuesday.
