Sirigu seeking firmer focus from Paris

Paris Saint-Germain must learn to keep their focus sharp at all times if the quarter-finalists are to progress further in this season's UEFA Champions League, according to Salvatore Sirigu. The Italian goalkeeper saved a penalty in a hard-fought 2-1 second-leg win against ten-man Bayer 04 Leverkusen as the French side failed to replicate their sparkling 4-0 round of 16 success in Germany three weeks ago. "We can't afford to ease off in this competition," warned the 27-year-old.

It was a difficult match. You can't think that if you win 4-0 away the second game will be easy. On the contrary, it was very tough today and this will be a lesson for us because next time we have to cut out certain actions that could affect our performances and results. We have to take every game seriously and give everything. You can't afford to ease off in this competition and we saw that today.

It was a little bit similar [at home] against Anderlecht. But we've also had important games here, like against Benfica, and this is still our stadium, our home. I don't think we have any problem playing here.

In the league, we've shown that despite changes to the lineup we've been able to put in good performances and get results. I think, whoever was on the pitch today, we were just a little lax and casual. You can't be casual in the Champions League.

[For the penalty] I'd spoken to goalkeeping coach Nicolas Déhon beforehand. I also saw in the way [Simon Rolfes] was moving that he was possibly going to hit it hard to my left. I tried not to move early and give him an advantage. Luckily, I guessed the right direction. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Our goal tonight was to go through. And although not everything was perfect, especially in the first half when we were very wasteful and had trouble playing our game, in the end we won the game thanks to a better second-half performance. Now we can think about the quarter-finals.

Their early goal woke us up. We started badly, but we woke up after that and equalised. We had trouble building on that and 'Salva' stopped a penalty and made a few saves.

The players who came into the lineup hadn't played for a while, or hadn't started a game for a while. We need to work on our understanding, especially in midfield where we were stepping on each other's toes a little. We'll keep on working, but the important thing was that we won. We'll see at the end of the competition where our level is, but we're still involved. Now we have to wait for the draw.
