UEFA notes with satisfaction that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal lodged by FC Salzburg against the decision rendered by the UEFA Appeals Body on 16 August 2013.
Salzburg were defeated by Fenerbahçe SK in the third qualifying round of the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League and afterwards lodged a protest, which was rejected by both the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body and the UEFA Appeals Body on 9 August 2013 and 16 August 2013 respectively. Moreover, the CAS had already rejected Salzburg's application for provisional measures whereby they sought UEFA Champions League reinstatement on 21 August 2013.
In a final and comprehensively reasoned award, the CAS confirmed UEFA's position regarding the appeal of Salzburg.
This CAS decision now renders closed all disciplinary proceedings related to the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and confirms that all decisions taken by the UEFA disciplinary bodies in the summer of 2013 in relation to these two competitions, were appropriate.
