Fàbregas looks to fulfil Barcelona's duty

Only 26 but already a world and European champion with Spain, Cesc Fàbregas still craves one particular club prize – a UEFA Champions League winners' medal.

Fàbregas came within sight of lifting Europe's premier club trophy as an Arsenal FC player in 2006, when the Gunners were beaten in the final by the midfielder's current employers FC Barcelona.

The Azulgrana have added two more continental crowns to their cabinet since then, but this season are looking to bounce back from last term's 7-0 aggregate defeat by eventual winners FC Bayern München in the semi-finals. They head into Wednesday's round of 16 second leg against Manchester City FC with a 2-0 advantage.

"Playing for Barcelona, you're aiming for it all every year, because of the players you have there and everything the club represents at international level," said Fàbregas. "You know you have to fight for every title – that gets into your head pretty quickly when you play for Barcelona.

"I wanted to play for the best club in the world, and with lads who I had shared my time with as a teenager and who I had also enjoyed playing alongside in the national team, just fantastic people – the club of my life."
