Ibrahimović striving for Champions League first

Zlatan Ibrahimović discusses his quest for a first UEFA Champions League title, the "ongoing project" at Paris Saint-Germain and going "totally crazy" while at AFC Ajax.

A domestic championship winner with six different teams, Zlatan Ibrahimović remains without the most coveted club trophy of them all.

Ibrahimović joined Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2012 and promptly helped the capital outfit to their first Ligue 1 crown in 19 years – the Swedish international's tenth top-flight gong in his fourth different country. Paris look well set to defend that particular piece of silverware, though it is the UEFA Champions League title that they and their talismanic striker crave the most.

"I think it would mean a lot," said Ibrahimović. "If we can get further than the quarter-finals this year it would be a big step for us. This project has been ongoing for two years and I've been here for one and a half – it is developing. We have a team with a lot of potential and high quality and I think the collective part has grown a lot this year."

Now 32, Ibrahimović made his group stage debut as a 21-year-old, scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory for AFC Ajax against Olympique Lyonnais. "I was very happy," he said. "From my first game in the Champions League I remember the song and at Ajax, all the flags were waving around the stadium. I remember after the first goal I went totally crazy. I ran across the whole field to my friends on the other side. I had invited some friends over to see the game, so it was a special moment."

Next up for Paris are Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the round of 16, with the first leg taking place in Germany on Tuesday.
