Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani faces a race against time to be fit for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 18 February.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan international, who registered four times in five Group C outings, incurred a thigh injury 75 minutes into Paris' 2-0 home win against FC Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on Friday – ruling him out "for a few weeks" according to coach Laurent Blanc.
"The injury is not serious and we'll see how it develops," Blanc said. "He will need to recover both physically and mentally as he's given a lot since the start of the season – we must accept that. I've told him there are important games in February, but even more in March, April and May."
The 48-year-old tactician was nonetheless confident of having Cavani, a €64.5m purchase from SSC Napoli last July, at his disposal for the last-16 decider in Paris on 12 March.
