Club Atlético de Madrid have re-signed their 2012 UEFA Europa League winning midfielder Diego from VfL Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old – 33 times an international for Brazil – scored six goals in 43 appearances in all competitions for Los Rojiblancos during a loan spell at the Vicente Calderón in 2011/12. His penultimate game for the club that season was the 3-0 UEFA Europa League final triumph against Athletic Club Bilbao in Bucharest, when he netted the third goal of the encounter for Diego Simeone's side five minutes from time.
Diego moved to Wolfsburg after a season with Juventus for around €15m in 2010, and he went on to net 17 times in 70 Bundesliga games during two spells with Die Wölfe. Before that, the former FC Porto playmaker experienced initial success in Germany at SV Werder Bremen, where he won German Cup and League Cup honours and scored an impressive 38 goals in 84 top-flight appearances.
