Olympiacos FC's leading scorer this season, Kostas Mitroglou has extended his contract with the Greek champions by a year until June 2017.
The striker has been rewarded for a prolific first half of the campaign in which he has scored 14 goals in ten top-flight appearances – a total which includes three hat-tricks – and a further treble in the UEFA Champions League against RSC Anderlecht.
Mitroglou said: "I am very happy to extend my stay at the club of my heart. I want to thank Olympiacos for embracing me and for believing in me, even during the rough patches of my career."
The 25-year-old joined the Pireaus outfit in summer 2007 from German Bundesliga side VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and between January 2011 and May 2012 was on loan at Panionios GSS and Atromitos FC respectively, spending a whole season with the latter.
Mitroglou has scored eight goals in 28 outings for Greece, his most recent strikes coming last month in the FIFA World Cup play-off tie against Romania. Olympiacos will tackle Manchester United FC in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 25 February and 19 March.
