This game was just like our whole competition: sometimes bad luck, sometimes bad play. What's new tonight, compared with other games, was our mindset. When the team decide like they did tonight to give everything, it's another game.

We know that with 11 on the pitch it was already hard against last season's runners-up; with ten it became very complicated, but we are not ashamed tonight because we gave everything. This spirit is the account we want to give of our club and our city. Tonight the players put in a performance that shows what's needed to be a Marseille player, certain values. They are not to blame tonight, unlike in the previous games.

I enjoyed preparing for this game, to be in the competition, and I enjoyed talking with the players. We wanted to play a little joke on Dortmund and we wanted to avoid finishing with zero points in the group. With this same spirit in previous games, we could have collected points here and there.

Jürgen Klopp, Dortmund coach
Basically we did everything right today and in the end we still got so many things wrong. It was incredible how many chances we created against unbelievably compact opponents who also defended with passion. But it was even more incredible how we managed to miss those opportunities. We twice had a situation where someone failed to kick the ball when it was already on the goal line and [Robert] Lewandowski also managed miss an open goal. In the end we required a scrambled shot by Kevin Grosskreutz – but it's a great feeling.

We had a lot of problems before this match and this was a difficult and intense game. Marseille fought for their pride. They didn't have any weapons but still managed to score. Of course we still believed we could win the match because we got into their box about every 30 seconds. At some point the ball just had to go in. The lads put in a great effort today and were completely focused. They outdid themselves because there was a lot of pressure on us.
