Having recently extended his FC Bayern München until 2018, defender David Alaba has been named as Austria's Player of the Year for a third time in succession
The 21-year-old helped Bayern to win a sensational treble, as they scooped the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the UEFA Champions League under Jupp Heynckes in 2013, but Alaba was no less thrilled with his latest accolade, having become the first player to be voted Austria's top footballer in three successive years since the award was introduced in 1984.
"I'm delighted to receive this great honour and would like to thank all the coaches [who voted for me]," said Alaba, who was also named as Austria's sportsman of the year in November. "You never get used to such an honour – it's always something special. You are always delighted to receive such awards."
