Zenit revival leaves Spalletti speechless

The coaches acknowledged FC Porto had the better of the first period, although Luciano Spalletti could not find sufficient words to praise FC Zenit's second-half showing.

Without doubt we went out to get the win and collect all three points tonight. I can't explain why we started this Champions League campaign so badly, but it's not the first time we are in such a situation. In the first half Porto were the better team; maybe they were stronger than us physically. By the end of the half we managed to find our game, and after the break we took the initiative. I can't even describe how well my lads played in the second half.

I have to say that all our substitutes played really well – they didn't need any time to start producing. We have a strong bench. Probably that's why Andrey Arshavin, who sometimes doesn't take part in defending, was everywhere.

Talking about the penalty [Hulk missed], I believe the players on the field should decide who takes them. They see it much better than the coach, who is so far off the play.

Paulo Fonseca, Porto coach
After these two games against Zenit, it's fair to say we were superior. Today we put in a great first half, but we didn't win. The team are really down but we won't give up. We still have two games left and we believe in our qualification chances as long as we keep playing like this.

Regarding the goal we conceded, when there are mistakes it's everybody's fault. I'm the main person responsible but Zenit's goal doesn't take credit away from our good first half. The problem is that we are on a run where we get punished for our first mistake. We were exceptional at all levels, and only one team wanted to win – us – against an opponent relying on the counterattack. However, there are no moral victories and we are in a difficult position, relying on other results going our way.
