Samuel Eto'o credited José Mourinho with the first of his two goals that helped Chelsea FC to a second successive 3-0 victory against FC Schalke 04 and said his second strike was a thing of beauty.
Gary Cahill praised Eto'o for sparking the Blues into life with the way he charged down Timo Hildebrand's attempted clearance while Schalke's Julian Draxler said it was always going to be difficult to come back from that mistake. Nevertheless he is confident his team can qualify for the knockout rounds from Group E.
Samuel Eto'o, Chelsea forward
The credit for the opening goal goes to José – he was encouraging us to press from the sideline. I took the first couple of steps and saw that he was going to have trouble clearing the ball. I sped up and he hit the ball into my foot.
I was very lucky that the ball ended up going towards the goal. [The second goal] was really beautiful – the ball from Willian, my control and then the shot. Football can be crazy, you win some games and you lose others. The important thing is to always try. It is true that we were below par against Basel [on matchday one]. That happens in football. The most important thing is to look forward, and we have taken nine points from the three matches since.
Gary Cahill, Chelsea defender
We started a bit slow but Samuel sparked us into life and set the tempo with the way he worked hard to shut the goalkeeper down. It was clever play. Sometimes in Champions League football you might show the other team a bit more respect and allow them to have the ball at the back but Samuel obviously felt there was an opportunity there and he has been rewarded.
Mistakes happen in football and their goalkeeper is not going to be too thrilled with that but they only happen if they are forced to happen and Samuel forced that mistake with his hard work. Then with the second goal he has shown the quality he has displayed down the years. It was a brilliant finish. We have put ourselves in a good position in the group and the fact the other game ended in a draw was also a good result for us.
Oscar, Chelsea midfielder
We are happy to have played to our ability. We all went onto the field keen to show what we could do [after Saturday's defeat by Newcastle United FC] and played well. Willian and I combined well today and were pleased to contribute to the win. I really enjoy playing with him, David Luiz and Ramires. We hope to get better still.
Julian Draxler, Schalke midfielder
I am disappointed, as are all the team. We started very well and had our chances but Chelsea are such a good team they do not need that many chances to score. They are one of the best teams in the world and we have to learn from it.
Timo said sorry at half-time. Things like that happen. We tried to turn the game our way but if you are 1-0 down at Chelsea it is not easy to come back. They have a very strong team and they showed us that today. We are in second position and we have a very important game next time in Bucharest. We have to win there and hopefully Chelsea can beat Basel and then we are through to the next round.
