Simeone enjoys Atlético's 'great job'

Diego Simeone said Club Atlético de Madrid had shown "a fantastic response" as they came from a goal down at FC Porto, leaving Paulo Fonseca to reflect on "a huge injustice".

This is a huge injustice, especially considering our performance in the first half, and in part of the second too. We didn't deserve to concede two goals from set pieces. After half-time Atlético took more control of the game than they had done in the first period. We managed to move the ball well enough, but ended up conceding goals when we were on top. In the end, the result is what matters most. Despite that, I was more pleased with my team's display than in previous games.

We didn't play against an everyday team, but against a strong one who are always trying to take a hold of the game. Atlético have a lot of quality and tried to react after going 1-0 down. Even after they equalised, though, we looked for the second goal and could have achieved it. We're still in second place in the group, but this result doesn't satisfy us because we intended to win all of our home games. Nonetheless, everything is still open.

Diego Simeone, Atlético coach
We are very happy – we did a great job. It was a fantastic response to what was an adverse situation. The first 25 minutes were hard for us, Porto were very strong then. When we changed our way of playing in midfield from the 30th minute, the game also changed.

We made key tactical switches which helped us as we looked to play into spaces and get closer to their penalty area. The lead-up to our second goal was something we had worked on. There is happiness at achieving a very important result. It's incredible the reaction we produced tonight. Everyone put in a great performance. The team must be congratulated. We will go on taking things game by game.
