It was job done tonight. We had to win the game and we did so, and it was a good performance. We could, and should, have scored more, but it was a good victory. We had [a similar situation] on Saturday where we led 1-0 going into the last stages so there was a bit of nervousness around that tonight, but if we had scored five or six today, it wouldn't have been out of place.
Wayne Rooney was absolutely terrific. I was shouting at him in the last five minutes, though! We just want a top player like Wayne to play well. I said from day one that his training was great. I think England have seen that. But we need to see it all the time. I thought we had some great performances throughout the team tonight.
Jagoba Arrasate, Real Sociedad coach
We conceded a goal in the second minute and it is very difficult to turn the score around from there. We wanted to but we could not. United were better and their victory is a fair result. The boys are sad because they were very excited [about this competition], but now we have to recover and continue fighting. We have the chance to be third [in Group A], but now we must focus on the Liga. When you concede a goal so early it is difficult – the team were not good in the first half-hour. We let them run and we suffered a lot.
