SSC Napoli right-back Christian Maggio will undergo surgery on his left knee, ruling the 31-year-old out of their UEFA Champions League Group F trip to Arsenal FC on 1 October.
The Italian international saw a specialist this morning after complaining of discomfort and was told that the operation will resolve a problem with his meniscus. A club statement read: "He will undergo surgery on Wednesday and will be back after the break for international games."
Maggio is expected to return to action for the Serie A encounter at AS Roma on 19 October and should therefore be available for Napoli's matchday three fixture away to Olympique de Marseille three days later. The Partenopei made an eye-catching statement of intent last week by beating last season's finalists Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Naples.
