Insigne and Higuaín bask in Napoli glory

Lorenzo Insigne spoke of a night he will "never forget" after helping SSC Napoli beat last season's UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Stadio San Paolo, while fellow scorer Gonzalo Higuaín was similarly emotional.

Dortmund goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak, who came on for his European debut when Roman Weidenfeller was sent off just before the break, admitted the defeat was a setback, but he and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang agreed that they leave Naples with plenty of positives for the Group F campaign.

It was an amazing emotion to score on my Champions League debut in front of my people, I'll never forget this night. We started well, were aggressive from the outset and it was all the more easier after Roman Weidenfeller was sent off. We did well to believe in ourselves to the end to get these three points. We were compact, like a big team has to be, and that is how you win games. We play AC Milan in the league on Sunday and we have to take things game by game. Then we'll see where we are in the end.

I'm delighted – to score a goal like that in front of these people is fantastic. It was a very important game for us against very strong opponents and it was crucial to start with a win, so we're delighted to have managed it. This is a very difficult group, but we've started off on the right foot.

It was a very difficult game against a very strong side. We went out there to win and we've done it. I played a bit further forward than usual. I'd never played this position before, but I have a good understanding of the runs Higuaín makes.

To play your first game is always difficult and away to Napoli is even harder. We wanted to come away with something today, but to come on like that, it's a bit difficult. Obviously losing [sent-off Jürgen Klopp] and Roman to the red card was a setback for us, but it's no excuse.

We did quite well in the second half to come back and make it an interesting game, which was important for us, but having ten men for 45 minutes makes it more difficult. We can come away thinking positively about the game.

The fans here are crazy, but credit to our fans. They turned up in numbers and they made a bit of an atmosphere. We could hear them and that helps when we can come away and have our BVB fans there supporting us.

If you're going to lose, it's probably best to happen now in the first game. We know exactly what we need to do. Let's not forget we're here in Naples away from home, which makes it so much harder. We've got the home game, we've got more games to come in the Champions League, so hopefully, fingers crossed, we'll get the points we need.

That save [Pepe Reina made] from the free-kick was fantastic. If we had got that goal, it would have been fantastic. We would have come away happy. It wasn't to be tonight and we'll build on that for the next game.

The red card hurt us, especially since we'd started well, but these things happen. The positive thing is we responded well in the second half. We scored and created other chances. It's not easy to respond the way we did when you are up against a side like Napoli, so we still take plenty of positives out of this game and now we move onto the next one, which we'll try to win.

I thought my shot [which hit the crossbar] was going in. It's a shame because that would have changed everything, but that's football. We know we've got to get as many points as possible at home and that's what we'll try to do now against Marseille.
