José Mourinho, Chelsea FC manager
The second goal was very difficult to accept. We work a lot on defensive set pieces and the header was in a position where we had two players defending the zone, plus a player marking [Marco] Streller. Three players made a mistake and we were punished because of that. I am so happy to come here in the fantastic moments and say this player was great or fantastic; when we lose I am responsible and I do not like to talk about individual players.
We want to believe in each other, be critical inside and try to resolve things inside and we will try to win against Fulham in the Premier League and in the next match in the Champions League. We have to try to get the three points.
Murat Yakin, FC Basel 1893 coach
At times we lost possession too quickly and were not able to calm down our game. Chelsea were therefore able to keep the ball in our half for long spells of the match. Defensively we were quite well organised, but still allowed the opposition too many chances. The substitution of Matías Delgado gave the team more stability. We will remain humble now and know that all we did today was to win the first game. Huge compliments to my team though: after years we have finally managed to win a game over here. We will continue to focus on one game at a time. We will analyse today's match and on Sunday we are back in action in our league campaign.
