FC Steaua București made three signings on transfer deadline day as they prepare for their first UEFA Champions League group stage campaign since 2008/09.
Central midfielder Ionuț Neagu, 23, has moved to the Romanian capital from FC Oțelul Galați, where he had spent his entire professional career to date. Also arriving to bolster Laurenţiu Reghecampf's squad is experienced Greek international forward Pantelis Kapetanos, who returns to Steaua after more than two years at CFR 1907 Cluj. The 30-year-old scored 27 league goals in his first spell at the club, between July 2008 and January 2011.
Centre-back Fernando Varela completes the trio of new recruits, the 25-year-old Cape Verde Islands international arriving from FC Vaslui as a replacement for Vlad Chiricheş, who last week departed for Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Steaua were drawn alongside FC Basel 1893, FC Schalke 04 and Chelsea FC in UEFA Champions League Group E. They begin their campaign in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday 18 September.
