GNK Dinamo Zagreb coach Krunoslav Jurčić was dismissed after their home 2-0 UEFA Champions League play-off first-leg loss to FK Austria Wien.
Dinamo executive president Zdravko Mamić announced the decision at a specially-arranged press conference following the game. Jurčić began his third spell as Dinamo coach last November, replacing Ante Čačić, and secured the Croatian title but his side now need an impressive win in Vienna next Tuesday to earn another UEFA Champions League group stage place.
"I must thank Jurčić for everything but we need a positive shock for the second leg in Vienna and that would be a coach swap," Mamić said. "I want to guarantee you that Dinamo will win in Vienna but I don't know if it will be enough. Kruno Jurčić was also replaced because he didn't correct some of his mistakes even in his third coaching role at Dinamo."
Jurčić's assistant Damir Krznar will take charge of the side on a temporary basis until a permanent successor is found.
